Illinois State University’s

Share Shop

08 / 2022 – 05 / 2023

During my time as an intern and then part-time graphic designer at Illinois State University’s Office of Sustainability I did the occasional work for one of its many programs, the Share Shop. The Share Shop is a free to student, donation based thrift store housed in the Sustainability office. Not known to many, other than the occasional incoming freshman due to its recent beginnings, most of my time was spent trying to spread awareness for community events.

These included a series of posters, where the main focus was to detail what the Share Shop was for those who didn’t know, including items offered, as well as provide the location and times open to the public. The series was made to be used on the numerous digital screens scattered across campus. With most being different dimensions than the next, I was tasked with the creation and subsequent resizing of 19 pieces.

The New Year’s Free Cycle, a pop up event to offload some of the extra merchandise accumulated from frequent donations after being featured in the local newspaper. For this event, I was tasked with creating playful, photo booth style prop signage that students could use to take photos showing off their merchandise.

Another event I designed for was during finals week. As students finished up their classes, we wanted to create some signage to post across campus and socials to get the word out about being open for textbook donations. These weren’t things the Share Shop normally kept in stock, but we had a goal of creating a back stock collection of textbooks to choose from, for students who may not have access to textbooks due to pricing, availability issues, etc.
