Redbird Refillery operates as a pop-up at various campus wide events, and also has a permanent refill station at The Office of Sustainability, located at 305 N. School St.

The refillery began during my time with ISU’s Office of Sustainability. My boss, Elisabeth Reed, the Director of Sustainability on campus, is always working on creating and inventing new sustainability-based initiatives for the Redbird community. After stumbling upon the idea of a refillery, Elisabeth was quite interested in the concept, and how one could be utilized locally. Her main mission with the Redbird Refillery is to allow students, faculty, and locals alike to cut back on unnecessary waste, while still receiving their hygiene essentials.
As I now graduate, the Redbird Refillery will continue to go on as it now becomes the responsibility of Illinois State RSO, SustainableSTATE. Before I left, I set it up for what I hope is its continued success via an eco friendly, organic cotton refillery branded shower caddy, as well as a new scent line to launch in the new year.

Once Elisabeth had the idea in mind, she reached out to myself about getting the ball rolling. She presented me her pitch of what she was looking for and gave me the opportunity to explore and run with it how I saw fit. During this time, I did a numerous amount of research before coordinating with wholesale vendors to source products and packaging. My main priority being to supply the refillery with supplies from companies that not only care about the consumer, but their long term impact on the environment.
